" Youngest in the Game" Narvel

NARVEL was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, Home of hard-core blues, history & soul food. His love for singing began as a little boy in church as song-leader. As a teenager his love for Blues began from attending blues events to watch his Aunt, Denise LaSalle perform, along with his other influences Bobby Womack, Bobby Rush, B.B. King, and Clarence Carter only to name a few. While in high school, Narvel started performing and singing background for a local rap group that established itself as one of the pioneers for Delta Hip Hop and had Regional success that provided the group with the opportunity to perform shows with many established acts and also some statewide radio play. Narvel was quickly recognized for his old soulful sound even though he was a young cat. With that sound Narvel became known as "The Ghetto Folk Hummingbird". Though the group had limited success, making it in rap out of Mississippi, with the lack of support from radio and this, was a hard task in itself. Narvel, even from the beginning always expressed an interest in singing the blues, and always considered himself a blues singer at heart, so when the opportunity presented itself, Narvel jumped in with both feet and started his campaign to bring back the Delta blues. His first single, "Gotta Find Me a Woman" became an instant radio success and a favorite in the Delta area surrounding highways 82 and 49. The new CD, "Youngest in the Game" is scheduled to be released. Be on the lookout for Narvel, bringing you the New School Blues/R&B, with a little for the old and a little for the new

i really think a character background should be provided on the 15 year old girl who was gang raped. But i also feel this is harsh to ask for. The reason i say one should be provided is because some people have history of doing things and i want to say that they reap what they sow. But what happened to this girl i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I have seen it in police cases where police have felt o so bad for the victim, but when they find out that persons background they feeling change. I'm not saying that they don't feel sorry for that person no more though. Lets just say this girl had a history of uhhhhh sexual misconduct (I'm not saying she deserved what she got) but if she did, like the old folks say something like this was bound to happened. Its wrong and i hate it happened, but whats her history. If she has a history of doing something like this or close to this when shes sober and conscience and the guys are sober and conscience, then when they they both aren't then the drunk guy or guys wouldn't think twice about. I hate to say this this but them guys probably thought "what the hell she been going." That's wrong I'm not saying i think like that cause you can ask females that really know me and they'll tell you I'm not like and think like that. Its just A lot of guys i hang with are dogs or have doggish ways and i hear them talk and i know how a dog thinks. I feel she didn't deserve that no matter how she is, but i was raised by old folks and i heard them say it before " If you want to run around here fast in the ass then you gone end up getting got by the wrong somebody, you need to slow down"

Mississippi natives dominating the NFL

Everyone knows that in football probably the three main positions are quarterback, wide receiver, and running back. When you think about the NFL arguably the greatest players of all time of those positions are from Mississippi. The quarterback Brett Farve: Who would ever think a guy from Laurel Mississippi would become the best quarterback of all time. Believe it or not a lot people consider Brett to be the greatest quarterback of all time. But why wouldn't you? This guy holds almost every major passing and QB record, from career passing yardage to career touchdowns. The running back is BIG argument starter among sports talk when trying to figure out the best at this position. I'm talking about Columbia's own Walter SWEETNESS Payton. Who wouldn't consider him great.Look at a couple NFL records held at one time by Payton: Career rushing yards (16,726), attempts (3,838), yards in a single game (275), career 100-yard games (77), 1,000 yard seasons (10), most consecutive seasons leading NFL in attempts (4), career combined net yards (21,803), combined net yards gained, career attempts (4,368). Payton's records may not have been broken were it not for several factors beyond his control. Over his 13 year career, two of his seasons were cut short by strikes, costing him 11 games. Also, from 1975-1977 the NFL season was 14 games. Payton had the opportunity to play in 191 games. Now the wide receiver everyone knows who he is. The greatest football player that came and will ever come Mississippi Valley university, I'm talking about Jerry Rice. This Starkville native is considered the G.O.A.T. like Brett, he holds every major record at his position (except for most single season TDs. The second greatest Randy Moss holds that record). There might never be another like him (except Randy Moss). These guys are the greatest at that position, it makes you wonder whats in that Mississippi water.

Cutting the Cals.

Last week I did a posting on the eating habits of teens and children in the Mississippi Delta, relating to obesity. A good way to put a DENT in these eating habits is for the local schools to adapt the calorie limits instituted by the Institute of Medicine. The IOM report says lunches shouldn't be more than 650 calories in grades K through five, 700 for middle schoolers, and 850 for grades 9 through 12. Breakfasts, meantime, should range from 500 to 600 calories depending on the grade. ( Katherine Hobson, U.S. News). This would probably make a lot of kids mad, not because of the calorie limits (cause they don't care about that) but because this might cut out some of there favorite lunch items. For this to work there might be another thing to make the kids angry. The next move that I'm referring to is filling their vending machines with more healthier items, stemming from fruits to nuts and etc. Like I said this might make them angry, but what they have to understand is that people are trying to save their lives. Why The small Delta Is So BIG

There has been a study going on about why obesity is so high in the Mississippi Delta. No one can seem to really answer it but, everyone seems to have they own thoughts about why we have that problem here. My idea about that is that there are too many places available for kids to get junk food and unhealthy food, and the kids eat too much. In the urban parts of these small delta towns junk food is literally available on every corner for kids or any one else of that matter to get. Take Greenwood and the typical urban student for example.... These students eating pattern usually go as follows:

1. Eat breakfast at school.

2. heads to home room stop by the snack machine or a teacher that sells snacks.

3. Goes to 1st, 2Nd, and 3rd period doing the same.

4. Goes to lunch eat the lunch and buy snacks at lunch.

5. Go to 5Th, 6Th, and 7Th period doing the same as 1st period through 4Th.

6. Leave school and stop by the Chinese store or corner store for snacks or unhealthy cooked food.

7. wait bout 30 minutes to a hour and go to the lady house down the street or across the street to buy more cooked food or snacks.

8.wait about 30 minutes after that buys snacks from the snowball man driving through the neighborhood.

9. About an hour or two later they eat again when they mother come home.

So with those eating patterns its no wonder a lot of kids in the Delta are obese. I know a number of kids that does this. So if there really is an obesity problem, then to me it comes back to the availability of the food to the kids.
